Scott-Masson Interior Design was established in 1988 by Anne-Marie Scott-Masson. Her philosophy was to make available in the South West the level of service and range of fabrics and accessories that are expected in London. In the intervening years she has done exactly that. Her daughter Nadine has now taken over the running of the business.

Design
Scott-Masson Interior Design was established in 1988 by Anne-Marie Scott-Masson. Her philosophy was to make available in the South West the level of service and range of fabrics and accessories that are expected in London. In the intervening years she has done exactly that. Her daughter Nadine has now taken over the running of the business.
Scott-Masson Interior Design has moved into new premises. These are Cambrai House, Bovington, Dorset. We are well equipped to see customers in our design studio, where one can spend time looking through a large selection of fabrics and accessories. We have fabric books from most of the major fabric houses and examples of everything from bespoke furniture to lamps and finials.
Craftsmanship
Available to us are a multitude of local craftsmen as well as our permanent employees. This means that we are able to call upon a huge variety of skills, including: paint effecting, mural and trompe l’oeil painting, curtain making, furniture making, joinery, floor laying of all kinds, lighting, plumbing, landscape gardening, the re-upholstery of antique furniture and the bespoke manufacture of beds, sofas, chairs stools etc.
We also have contacts with carpet makers who can dye carpets and rugs specifically for a scheme, or to match a fabric or paint sample.
Detail
A knowledge of architectural history, and especially the architecture of the South West, enables us to be faithful to the period requirements of houses. This architectural knowledge also means that we know how, and when, it is best to break the rules a modern piece of fabric or furniture in a very old house can look stunning and illuminate the differences between the two to great effect. What matters most, is attention to detail.
Adaptability
Projects can be a small or as large as the customer needs. We can supply a couple of cushions or we can oversee a whole project; from liasing with the architect, overseeing the building work and then decorating and furnishing the house right down to the last teaspoon. We also simply sell fabrics and wallpapers.
With the proliferation of second homes we find we are increasingly working as the client’s agent in their absence, this is something we are glad to do.
Handmade
The manipulation of light is fundamental to good design. We consider lighting to be a particular speciality. All curtains, blinds, valances, table covers etc are hand made, lined and interlined with the finest materials.
We are happy to accompany clients to antique dealers and auction houses to purchase furniture, or we can find and purchase pieces on the client’s behalf.
Trimmings can be specifically woven to match fabrics, or purchased directly from the enormous range available at the studio.
Interpretation
Lamps and lampshades can be made to order. The production of furniture for inside or outside the home and the bespoke manufacture of gates and metal work are all available. Carved or soft pelmets can be made to measure.
While an hour or two spent in the studio can be invaluable when trying to decide on the make-up of a scheme, when interior designing we always visit the customer’s home as many times as needed to help them achieve exactly their vision. We see our role as one of guidance and assistance, and we are just as ready to implement our customers ideas as we are to come up with our own. People often assume that involving an interior designer will increase the cost, but the contrary is more often the case.
