As we reach the end of 2020, join WonderZoo online as we celebrate with an online open mic night. ‘Open Up and Say… Aah!’ offers a rare opportunity for open mic performers to perform with WonderZoo. Once again, the event will take place on Zoom whilst simultaneously streaming on Facebook Live and will be compered by artist, writer and all-round brilliant person, Queen Chi. The event will be on 17th December from 7.30pm and a Zoom link will be posted one hour before the event.
Going into the New Year, WonderZoo have lots of exciting plans! We hope to expand our popular Radical Reading Group, which explores controversial and dystopian literature by adding a film element, the two media alternating monthly. In addition, we will be developing a new series of storytelling workshops which allow participants to explore their own stories and place within the world.
Depending on changing regulations, we hope to hold a socially distanced street party to bring communities together, with live performances from writers and singers, in Adelaide Street, Stonehouse, working in conjunction with Adelaide Angels community group and Vital Sparks/Mayflower 400.
We will continue working with Nudge Community Builders to create a unique and exciting programme of performances and arts events in the Union Street area, working flexibly in order to adapt to changing regulations. We are hoping to recruit a young person looking for work experience in the area of performance, writing and business development on this project.
Finally, we are very excited to be working with Soapbox Culture, an open mic night which runs once a month at the Bread and Roses, and Imperfect Cinema film group to research opportunities for a successful and innovative literary festival in Plymouth. Thanks to funding from POP+, we will soon have an independent researcher in post who will work with literary and performance groups throughout the city and further afield.
It’s going to be an amazing end to the year and a great start to the new one!
