The giant ballistic missile submarine HMS Vengeance arrived in Plymouth on Thursday for a three-year upgrade and refuel.
The 150m-long, 15,900-tonne submarine will come under the management of contractor Babcock at Devonport Dockyard for the hugely complex project.
HMS Vengeance is part of the UK’s strategic nuclear deterrent fleet of Vanguard Class submarines carrying the Trident missile system. HMS Vengeance will replace sister vessel HMS Vigilance which is nearing the end of its refit and refuel in Devonport – the only centre in the UK for the refit and refuel of the all the Royal Navy’s nuclear-powered submarines, including the hunter/killer Trafalgar class.
