Plymouth-based Royal Navy sailors have been raising money for Prostate Cancer UK during their ships refit.
Sailors from HMS Sutherland put their own spin on the charity craze Movember branding it Novembeard where the crew grew impressive beards. The ship’s company have so far raised £350 for the charity, with donations still coming in.
After a month of cultivating their fuzz, the mass ‘shave off’ was lead by Leading Physical Trainer Threlkeld, followed by around 15 other sailors.
Leading Engineering Technician Pate, said: “The whole day was a solemn one for the ‘Beard Society’ as we sacrificed our pride and joys. To know it was for such a great cause and for the promotion of men’s health meant it was an honour to take part. The Sutherland Beard Society will rise again!”
HMS Sutherland is continuing with her refit in Devonport Naval Base and is planning to proceed to sea next year for trials.
